The other day, I overheard my parents talk to their friends who they had called in for lunch. The topic started from the new house Mr. & Mrs. friend had shifted into- the hard acceptance and sudden newness of the place that had to be taken in. The excitement of finally being able to put their green fingers to use and how the kitchen now had the space to accommodate people and not just food.

The conversation did shift to their jobs, retirement life, longing and notsalgia of their younger and crazier days. The current geo politics and how all four of them had stark different opinion on it. My dad was a pro, mom was an anti, Mr. friend was indecisive & ended up being peer pressured by my father, also how Mrs. Friend hardly cared. They also spoke some celebrity trivia, office gossip, neighbour & the food that was ordered in earlier that week. How expensive it was; tasty, filling but foreign & expensive. The colors were beautiful, vegetables added were well cooked, the aroma new, but how it was foreign and expensive. How they could make it at home any-day and it would hardly cost them anything. And how their children, who were stupid enough to order it out.

I know this might be a common thing across the globe, but it’s funnily beautiful how any parent can bring a topic right back to how their children can be stupid at basic things.

These four friends also went on about how their children were almost the right age to be independent but can barely cook. To which mom said, my child can cook, but needs to spend less. Mrs. friend said, does my child really needs to cook? isn’t all the salary enough to get a cook. My dad made a face about how I just laze around and Mr friend spoke lengths about how he doesn’t understand his son’s generation any more.

As I was overhearing this, sipping on some iced tea and watching a show parallely on the television, it made me think, will I turn out just as my parents? They reached a certain age before they hit the realisation that they don’t understand or how they hardly relate to the generation these days. When I hardly understand people close to my own age at times. It made me think how they have still maintained the standard and stanity of things they liked and the kind of people they were. While still evolving so much.

It just put me to thinking about a lot of things.
